How many of you use thermoform in a perkins brailler or slate? do you like it? Personally I like writing on thermoform paper. It is very quiet and you don't have to press too hard with the stylus. Thermoform 8 and a half by 11 inch thermoform paper also works good in a Perkins Brailler. I tried it with my newly repaired perkins and it works great. And I think if I had known how to use a slate and stylus in the early to mid 2000s for college I would have passed and gotten my degree in spanish. Back then I was in my early 20s. now i'm 31 years old and have a plus and network plus computer certifications.

Thermoform paper is great, though probably expensive. I think it should be used for cook books, recipes, porn and menus, since it's washable.

Porn? Seriously?
I hate thermoform. I hate how it feels on my fingers. My fingertips always stick to it, so I can never read as fast.

I didn't know there was porn in braille. where can I get it? and do they put it on thermoform? and if I can't get it maybe I'll have to write some porn stories with my slate and stylus or brailler.

Fuck that plasticky shit!

They have different textures of it actually. Lots of venders have it.
I don't know off the top of my head, but try a search for braille paper, or you could even go to say office Depot, or something like that. It doesn't have to be braille paper, if you understand.
American Printing House For The Blind maybe?

Lol I echo Cody's sentiments. Porn? Seriously?

I never really liked thermoform paper, although I haven't read anything written on it since high school. I'm a fast reader, but my fingers couldn't move as fast on the thermoform paper, and it slowed me down to the point it annoyed me.

Braille paper and thermoform paper aren't the same thing. braille paper is just heavy gauge paper. Thermoform is actually plastic paper ment to be melted in a special machine.

Lol. I had to reread that two or three times to make sure I heard that correctly. Randomly amusing. I haven't used thermo form paper as much as braille paper.

No not paper, but there are different types of it available.

well I'll be giving the rest of my thermoform paper to Jason Milyo. He wants it to write choir music on. And it works good in the perkins brailler also.

I wonder if any braille printers or embossers can use thermoform paper?

The only thing I find odd about the slate and stylus is the religion some people have around it. I used it all growing up, and still can when need be, but to me that religion idealism is just plain silly: I mean, who talks about who can write faster with a pencil or how many words a minute they can do with a pen? But this is how some are about the slate. I always used mine, was not nearly as fast as what is claimed on the Internet, but fast enough to get 'er done.
And I know both sides of the Thermoform issue it does slow you down but real convenient for the kitchen and yes, the garage too, since who wants dust in the Braille paper or worse in the display? It's washable and that is pretty fantastic. Now if it could only not get staticky especially in the dry colder months up here.

I agree with Coty: thermoform isn't nice to read. If your fingers are even the slightest bit sweaty, forget it. I used to feel humiliated as a kid, having to read thermoform textbooks out loud in class; I read at about half the speed I was capable of on regular paper, not to mention the squeak my fingers would sometimes make! Plus, the pages tend to stick together. Don't even get me started on the static that loves clinging to those pages. It is easy to clean though. I once borrowed a library book with thermoform pages and found it to be covered in what looked like jam. I had to wash the entire book with a damp cloth. Ugh.
